Admitted to Summer College – Hybrid

I was admitted into Summer College – Hybrid. What’s next? Complete these ten steps to success below!

1. Reserve Your Seat

In order to secure your seat in a Summer College – Hybrid course, a $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 7 days of the acceptance letter being sent to you (via email). If you do not wish to accept your offer, please let us know via email so we can offer your seat to a waitlisted student.

If you are a sponsored student, you do not need to pay the $500 deposit. You will need to complete the Admit Acceptance Form found in your Application Student Portal to confirm your intention to attend Summer College. This form is due within one week of receiving your letter of admission.

Full payment and refund deadlines can be found on the Cost and Aid page here.

Once you confirm your attendance and/or pay your deposit, requests to change/switch courses will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact the Office of Pre-College Programs if you have questions.

In the rare event that a course must be cancelled, the student may choose a different course to attend or receive a full refund.

2. Submit Required Forms Forms coming soon!

In order to participate in our Hybrid program, all students and their parents or guardians must complete the required forms. Using the computer mouse as if it were a writing instrument, sign your name. If you have any problems accessing or signing the forms, please contact our office at precollege@syr.edu. See Step 8 for travel and move-in information.

3. Activate Your NetID

Complete 14 business days AFTER paying your deposit or confirming your attendance. Business days only include Monday – Friday (not Saturday and Sunday). For example, if you paid your deposit or confirmed your attendance on March 1, you will not be able to activate your NetID until at least March 21 (14 business days later).

Your NetID allows you to access your Syracuse University email address. Your program instructors will only be able to email you using your syr.edu email address, so don’t forget to check it often. Your NetID also gives you access to the many online resources available to all Syracuse University students.

If you cannot activate your NetID 14 business days after paying your deposit or confirming your attendance, please email us at precollege@syr.edu.

4. Visit your Syracuse University Email Account

Available 48 hours after activating your NetID.

It is Syracuse University policy that we are unable to give your professors/instructors access to your personal emails (@yahoo.com, @gmail.com, etc.) used when completing the Summer College – Hybrid application. However, you are provided with an official Syracuse University email account. The Syracuse University email policy requires that all official university e-mail communications be sent to this @syr.edu email address- so be sure to check your Syracuse email OFTEN!
Your official email account is established in a system called SUMail. SUMail is managed by the University and utilizes Microsoft’s Office 365 cloud services. All official Syracuse University communication will be sent via email to your SUMail address.
To log into your SUMail, go to:

  • SUMail.syr.edu
  • Type in your SUMail email address. Your SUMail email address is your NetID@syr.edu. For example if your NetID is  xyzsmith  your SUMail email address would be  xzysmith@syr.edu
  • Type in your password. SUmail uses the same password that you set up for your NetID. To manage your NetID, including passwords management, activation and two-factor authentication, visit netid.syr.edu.

Need to add SUMail to personal devices like your smartphone or tablet? Check out our step-by-step instructions on the SUMail Configurations page.

5. Submit your SUID photo

Use your SUMail and NetID to submit a photo for your SUID! Follow these directions on how to submit a photo.

6. Request Additional Services (if needed)

If you are in need of special accommodations this summer, please complete the Center for Disability Resources Registration Form. Be sure to indicate that you are a Summer College student. For questions regarding special dietary needs such as food allergies, vegetarian and vegan, issues, or general nutrition questions pertaining to your meal plan, contact Campus Dining at least four weeks before you arrive on campus by emailing mealtalk@syr.edu.

Additional Steps for International Students

If you are enrolled in a credit course: Unless you already have an appropriate visa which includes the provision for academic study, Syracuse University will issue you an I-20 document that you will need in order to apply for your F-1 Student Visa at a United States Embassy or Consulate.  You can expect to receive your I-20 approximately three weeks after making your deposit online.  Note that as an international student taking a credit-bearing course, you are not permitted to attend Summer College on a B-1/B-2 visitor visa.

If you are enrolled in a noncredit course: Students enrolled in a Summer College – Hybrid, short-term non-credit program do not qualify for F-1 immigration sponsorship. International students are encouraged to enter the United States in a temporary visitor status that allows for participation in a short, non-credit, course of study. For citizens of countries requiring a visa to enter the U.S., participants should obtain a B-2 “Visitor for Pleasure” visa to enter the U.S. Citizens of countries who enjoy the benefits of the Visa Waiver Program should obtain ESTA clearance and enter the U.S. in WT “Waiver Tourist” status.
