Arriving to Syracuse

Flying In: SYR Airport

The closest airport to Syracuse University is the Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR). If making flight reservations, it is recommended that you use this airport. Note, this is the only airport with Summer College – On Campus complimentary shuttle service.

Facts about Syracuse Hancock International Airport:

  • 15-20 minutes from campus
  • Small, recently renovated airport with two terminals

Arrival by Bus or Train: Regional Transportation Center

If you are taking a bus or train to Syracuse, the closest station is the William F. Walsh Regional Transportation Center. Note, this is the only bus and train center with Summer College – On Campus complimentary shuttle service.

Facts about Regional Transportation Center:

  • Approximately 15 minutes from campus
  • The William F. Walsh Regional Transportation Center (RTC) is served by Amtrak, Greyhound, Trailways, and Megabus
  • There is one main entrance with two sets of doors

Driving to Campus

Are you being driven directly to campus? Pre-college staff and the Office of Student Living team will be at Shaw Hall to greet you. Students will be emailed a map of campus, directions to Shaw Hall, any road closures, and a Move-In Pass (residential students only) approximately 1-2 weeks prior to the move-in date.

Print out and bring your Move-In Pass that corresponds to your move-in day:

Place the MANDATORY Move-In Pass on the dashboard of your vehicle on move-in day.

Departing Syracuse

When making travel arrangements to depart Syracuse, make sure to pay close attention to your course’s final commitment. Unless noted otherwise (please see your course page for final commitment information), courses conclude at 4 p.m. on the last Friday of class.

Flying Out: SYR Airport

Departing by Bus or Train: Regional Transportation Center

Getting Picked Up from Campus

For move out, please have the driver arrive at the front of Shaw Hall in the loading area. Note that the driver must remain in the vehicle at all times.

Complimentary Shuttle Service

Summer College – On Campus provides a complimentary shuttle service from the Syracuse airport (SYR) and the Regional Transportation Center (RTC) to Shaw Hall on move in and from Shaw Hall on move-out. The shuttle service is for STUDENTS ONLY.

Shuttle Service for Arrivals:

  • The complimentary shuttle will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on days of student arrival (July 3, July 17, and July 31).
  • Students need to fill out the Arrival and Departures forms (when available) to secure a spot on the shuttle if they’re flying into Syracuse Hancock Airport or arriving via train or bus to the Regional Transportation Center.

Shuttle Service for Departures:

  • Friday Departures: Shuttle running from 4 – 10 p.m.
  • Saturday Departures: Shuttle running from 4 a.m. – noon

Hotels and Lodging for Families

Some families may want to spend a weekend on campus while moving their students in, or visit with students through the duration of the program.

Sheraton Hotel University Inn & Conference Center

The Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center is the only hotel affiliated with Syracuse University. For reservations, visit their site or call 315.475.3000.

A number of hotels are within walking distance of campus, with many others only a short drive to the University. For a complete list, visit the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau. To view hotels close to campus, select “Syracuse University” or “Downtown” as the location in the Regions menu.
