Course Overview
This class introduces students to the fundamentals and technical principles of a variety of printmaking methodologies. Students will explore traditional methods like relief, intaglio, screen printing and possibility for experimentation with more contemporary digital methods.
Class consists of a series of lectures and demonstrations that will cover the various aspects involved in making the matrices for multiple impressions.
All students who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion and have the opportunity to request a Syracuse University credit or noncredit transcript.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, you should have an understanding of the following topics:
- Demonstration of a basic understanding of the Elements and Principles of Design.
- Acknowledge and discuss important artists of contemporary art and design.
- Create work using a variety of two-dimensional media, processes, and strategies.
- Critique their own work and the work of others.
- Document their creative processes throughout the process of creating and successfully photograph the work to be seen in digital formats.
- Approaches problem-solving in a creative manner.

Eligibility: Students must be of rising high school sophomore*, junior, or senior status – or a 2024 high school graduate.
*Rising sophomores are only eligible for the noncredit version of this course.
Credit: 3 credits** or Noncredit
**Prospective students wishing to take the course for college credit are required to submit a sample portfolio of 3-5 images of current artwork formatted in a single pdf document. Please include name, date, title, and dimensions. Images in the sample portfolio do not need to be in the medium of the course to be taken but should emphasize creativity and technical accomplishment.

Faculty Bio
Samantha Rossi
Samantha Rossi (Ely, MN) received her BFA in Printmaking, Painting and Drawing from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2015 and her MFA in Studio Arts from Syracuse University in 2019. She is currently teaching in and Coordinator of the Printmaking Department at Syracuse University.
